Abstract

The effect of gamma irradiation doses (5-45 kGy) has been studied on the optical properties of[(TeO₂)₀.₇ (B₂O₃)₀.₃]₀.₇₅ (BaO)₀.₂₅ glass. The glass densities are determined using Archimedes principle, while UV-VIS Spectrophotometer was used to evaluate the changes in the optical properties before and after irradiation. Gamma irradiation causes structural changes which due to the breaking of the network bonding. The decrease in optical band gap and shift of absorption edge towards longer wavelength is attributed to the increment ofNBO atoms and increase of defect in the glass sample.
