Abstract
Illegal immigration is not a new issue in Malaysia. It exists long before the nation's independence, and the government should have made combating it a major priority or otherwise, it will cost the nation and taxpayers millions of ringgit. As a result, the requirements of these illegal immigrants will unquestionably place a huge additional cost to the country. These expenditures include the cost of detaining individuals in various detention centers across the country prior to their return home. Due to internal challenges and an unbalanced economic expansion in a particular region or country, some citizens are compelled to leave their homeland. The objective of this research paper is to identify the factors influenced the illegal immigrant intrusion in Peninsular Malaysia and examine the changes of illegal immigrant modus operandi to intrude to Johor since 2017 until 2022 including the effect of COVID-19 pandemic. This paper also will analyse the impact of illegal immigrant’s issues in Johor towards Malaysia National Security. This research paper will utilize qualitative research. This research study also will be based on the secondary data fiom government departments, agencies such as National Task Force and any relevant sources connected directly and indirectly in border security as well as illegal immigrant’s issues in Malaysia particularly in Johor. The analysis will be based on the data gathered and also will be analyse with the data to support the arguments. Three key elements in Barry Buzan’s security theory will be highlighted in this research paper to examine the implications and impact towards illegal immigration on political, economic and social. Abraham Maslow’s theory of human motivation also will be imparted to analyse in this research paper. The influx of illegal immigrants will always occur in the event of peace or pandemic, regardless how many efforts by the government and enforcement agencies had been done. Serious action must be taken to the root cause of illegal immigration and consistently carried out with the continuous upgrade to the department and agencies related.
